A better work-life balance

Studiovine Blog

At Studiovine we like to do things differently. Working in a fast-paced and highly pressured agency environment can become draining towards the end of a working week. So after careful consideration we have now introduced a four-and-a-half day week.

It’s important to us as a team that we have the right balance of work and play. To help with flexibility we looked at working from home, but as one of our values is to collaborate and communicate this wouldn’t work on a day-to-day basis. Yes, we have the technology to assist with this but it just wasn’t right for our culture, so we ruled this out.

We then researched what other creative organisations were doing to give a better work/life balance, and the idea came about to reduce our working week.

But why? Our staff wellbeing is so important to us. It’s proven that having happy, healthy and refreshed staff will produce better work, especially with mental health being an open topic. We feel this move will help to support our team in making sure they get the downtime they need.

It’s a long and tough process to recruit good talent within our industry, so when you have a strong team of talented individuals you want to keep hold of them. We believe that employing happy staff will increase our productivity and quality of work because the team are less stressed and are more motivated to provide our clients with the services they need.

How’s this going to work? – Well, our staff will still work a 37.5 hour week, just spread across four-and-a-half days.

Our new studio hours are:

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:30am – 5pm
  • Friday: 9am – 3pm

Lee Nathan, our Executive Director had this to say: “At Studiovine we always push boundaries and do things differently. The wellbeing of our team is of great importance to me and will ultimately enhance our performance as an agency. These new working hours aren’t a new idea, we’re not the first to introduce it and hopefully won’t be the last. We believe, and recent studies have shown, that we can improve productivity, reduce stress and improve team motivation as well as their overall wellbeing. We believe this will also be a great thing for our clients, as happier, more motivated staff will produce better results.”
